HFTEQ is an offshoot of MEDTEQ, using the experience gained while developing dividers and measurement equipment associated with the high frequency insulation tester (HFIT 7.0).

The HFIT operates in the 320-450kHz region, with voltages up to 7.2kVp and crest factors over 6.0. Early in the development process, the absence of any reliable, accurate and traceable measurement equipment became apparent.

Many attempts at high frequency dividers were trailed, eventually leading to modelling in order to understand the upper limits of resistive dividers. Various rms to dc configurations were also trailed, before finally discovering a reliable core measurement system.
